It’s Not What You Know, But Who You Know

We have all heard that it is not what you know, but who you know. This statement has some truth to it. When we hear this we usually think about this being the ultimate advantage. Think about this.. you have a friend that lands a great job which doubles their income. For many they think oh it is because his brother-in-law works there. However there are those times that we see someone progress in their career and it is no surprise to us. Why? Because they have paid the price sometimes for years.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Does that sound familiar? It is amazing how perspective has so much to do with the way we interpret any given situation.

Look at these 2 definitions of perspective:

1. the art of drawing solid objects on a two-dimensional surface so as to give the right impression of their height, width, depth, and position in relation to each other when viewed from a particular point.“a perspective drawing”

2. a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view.

synonyms: outlook, view, viewpoint, point of view, POV, standpoint, position, stand, stance, angle, slant, attitude, frame of mind, frame of reference, approach, way of looking, interpretation

Scan back up to definition 1. You will see what you are looking for. If you expect opportunity you will find it. The Bible says: seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened. You can draw a different future with perspective and vision. There is also a scripture that says to us our thinking is critical to who we become. Perspective matters in the grand scheme of life. Definition number 2, attitude. Nothing stinks like a bad attitude.

Don’t skip the synonyms.

The synonyms are a reminder to me that if I want to achieve a similar result that others have achieved I MUST be willing to pay a similar price that others have paid.

It has been said that winning with money has more to do with our behavior than the “how to”. Figuring out how to budget is easy. Figuring out how to build a life that will create value in the marketplace is not as easy. When you bring value to others your bank account will thank you. The more important part is that you will have changed the lives during the process.
