Not even sure how to start this review. This podcast is absolutely captivating and I wanted to listen to it nonstop. The story is presented exceedingly well and every angle is nuanced and explored. But this isn’t for the faint of heart and I hesitate to recommend listening to it because it is so painful to get through. I think it will leave a scar on most people who listen to it, particularly parents of young children. The information is harrowing and the central character is nothing short of a monster. You will probably cry or come close at various times during this podcast, and rightly so. All of the people interviewed are important and impactful, and each one provides a perspective that will shape how you interpret this story. But while I walked away feeling sad and angry, I also felt grateful and hopeful. Thankful that there are people capable and motivated to find and bring to justice perpetrators of child abuse. That even though the dark web is a Mecca for child abuse, it isn’t the untouchable black hole we think of it as. I also walked away with a lesson and, sadly, a permanent hole in the trust I have for people in general. It unfortunately is not enough for someone to be a friend or family member to trust them alone with your kids, I now realize the ease with which perpetrators can and will victimize children, even toddlers. This podcast will open your eyes to the realities of child sexual abuse and force you to reckon with one of the darkest parts of human existence and our duty to protect our kids from it.
