Has the energy of a really gay Carry On film and I mean this as a compliment.
Faux and Stallion are two gay gentlemen (but not a couple) sharing a flat, fantasizing about being detectives. They live across the street from Holmes and Watson and are very jealous of their neighbours’ success and reputation. When Holmes and Watson piss off to Devon to deal with some business about a dog, Faux and Stallion seize their chance and steal one of the formidable duo’s potential new clients.Faux and Stallion are joined in their investigations by a feisty lesbian, (Stallion’s wife of convenience), and the three of them fumble about trying to solve the case, arguing and bickering and engaging in very funny banter.Puritans might frown upon the over-the-top accents and dialogue which is littered with anachronisms and Americanisms, but none of that bothered me. The acting and writing is superb, the mystery satisfying, and – what’s most important for me in an audio drama – the characters are well rounded and original and not your usual stereotypes.
Definitely one of my favourite new shows of the year! Fawx and Stallion recounts the adventures of London’s 2nd best detectives who just so happen to live on the same street as some other geezers you may or may not have heard of. Only a few episodes are out at the time of writing, but each one has had me laughing out loud. I’m such a sucker for a Sherlock Holmes adaptation and this does not disappoint in the slightest.
A whip-smart send-up of the Sherlock-and-Watson archetype which stands on its own. Geers and Thompson have written some of the best dialogue in all of modern audio fiction and this series puts their talent on full display.
This show is absolutely delightful! I love the back and forth between the characters and how everyone is queer. I can't wait for more!
For a show that happens during century XIX-XX Fawx & Stallion have a lot of ACAB energy.Good for them
I love it: think of your favorite heist/adventure movie, this is it as a podcast.
Fawx & Stallion is an incredibly fun and funny show that has quickly become a favorite of mine! All of the fun mystery of Holmes with even more spectacular characters and acting that is absolutely topnotch. I absolutely adore everything about it so far and cannot wait to see how the story continues!
I can't even say how many times I've had season one on repeat. it's such a joy to listen. the premise is so funny and clever, and the execution is absolutely perfect. it's the most found family podcast of them all.relationships and interactions between the characters carry the show. the podcast manages to show many intricacies and issues of navigating life as a queer person in a non-welcoming time, while still being effortlessly funny. when it goofs, it goofs hard and takes no prisoners. but when it gets serious and real, there are no survivors (save me, episode eight. episode eight please save me).ginormous kudos for including a central aroace character who is also, I'm pretty sure, some flavour of autistic (it's my professional evaluation, which I'm entitled to as an autistic person). being aroace doesn't prevent fawx from forming beautiful relationships. I can't wait to have more insight into his history with madge and the five years spent with james. on that note, madge's development is so rewarding. I love how she asserts her place, how she demands to be included and appreciated. and james, oof, james... truly heart-wrenching to witness his hidden insecurities push him to make mistakes. the bathtub scene from episode eight is both hard to listen to and comforting. perfectly bittersweet.overall, it's a beautiful podcast and a wonderful take on the classic holmes and watson (both the characters and the archetype). it's queer, it's acab, it's an awesome experience. season two can't come soon enough.
Witty podcast with clever writing, great voice acting, and sound design.
