RATING
The best fiction podcast I've ever listened to.
Cool little monster story, the sound effects are top notch. Upgrade those ear buds.
from a technical point of view, it was phenomenal. however, story-wise, it was too jumbled up and felt like a preview to a bigger story. as an avid lover of emotionally gripping podcasts, it wasn't what i was promised, and if it wasn't for the sound, it would have been 3 stars.
Carrier is a fun, schlocky, 'B Movie' monster horror. Cynthia Erivo plays Raylene, a truck driver hustling for jobs. She lands upon a delivery which grows more disturbing and mysterious over time. All the while, Raylene battles with missing the family back home that she is striving to provide for.Erivo is fantastic, giving a great and varied performance in which her character's guilt, hope, determination, curiosity and fear are all expressed sincerely. Raylene is a strong character, which is just as well as Carrier is mostly a one-character tale. Dialogue is spoken with a passion and authenticity that highlights the best of audio fiction. The story is well told, with good scriptwriting. The pacing can be a little sluggish and inconsistent at times but not enough to derail the plot. I still found myself hitting play on the next episode soon after finishing the previous one. There are nitpicks to be had about the lack of clarity regarding the big reveal but it could be argued that it's better left to the imagination to decide what exactly was in the back of Raylene's vehicle.QCode is often criticised for not following up on their series but Carrier doesn't need a second season. It works perfectly well by as a standalone, limited series offering. Certainly worth checking out, especially if you like low budget scary movies or cheap comic book frightfests. That's not a knock, that's where Carrier succeeds.
Rating - 5.5/10One of the older productions of Qcode. While the production quality continues to be impressive, the plot is underwhelming. Never really got myself invested in any of the characters and the target audience seems to be a younger crowd. Average experience.Note: These are only my amateur personal review ratings/thoughts, you are welcome to have your own opinions.
This show has so much good acting and tension right from the beginning. The soundscape is spine-tingling and amazing. There were some moments where I was really frustrated with the main character's decisions, but this show has a way of taking turns you don't expect, so things don't work out the way you think they will anyway.
my intro to fiction podcasts. What a ride...voice acting was great too.
It was really good, until it wasn't. The production value was great and the acting was top notch. The story at first was also pretty gripping. Ending felt rushed and very hand-wavey.
The ending was disappointing but the audio and story was interesting
Simple but reasonably effective horror story.
Carrier is the gold standard of immersive, no-narration audio fiction and consistently #1 on my own list. Incredible attention to detail in the sound design while somehow managing to avoid storytelling and scripting gimmicks. A go-to for the fan of 21st century radio drama.
Excellent production values, exellent acting, and a tense, enjoyable ride of a story. I think it bit off a little more than it could chew toward the end, and there are a LOT of ads compared to most podcasts, but I had a great time listening and highly recommend it.
This is a total experience with the sound and wow! Headphones are a must. It’s immersive and the plot and characters are so good. I want more! So much more!
Intense action packed audio drama with a fabulous immersive soundscape. Best listened to on a good pair of headphones and under the duvet...
Top notch production and talent! Some of the "action" gets muddled without dialog, but not enough to take me out of the story.
Didn't know what to expect from his podcast but was very impressed. Superb voice acting and story line, really gripping. Think I finished it in one sitting, just couldn't turn it off.
Nice sound production, good acting and the writing is not bad. "Duel" meets "Swamp Thing". Ending is somewhat unsatisfying and leaves some lose ends. But, overall, it is entertaining, thrilling and recommendable.
Unique story, but I wish there was another season or 3!
I am over halfway done with this, and oh boy I love this. The writing, the voice acting, the story are all freaking amazing. BUT really oh my word that sound design, it blows my mind how good it is. It really does pay to have good headphones for this one. It may not be required but the sound fields are so amazing you are going to miss something if you don't listen with headphones. I can not wait to finish this, because I need to hear where this all goes. Hats off to everyone that worked on this, the only fault I am sure I am going to find is that it is going to leave me wanting more.
Interesting premise, but the volume was everywhere - sometimes really loud, sometimes super soft. The story was not the easiest to follow either.
