RATING
This show just isn't for me. The concepts of the world and characters are far more interesting in theory than in practice. The acting is pretty stiff and weak but that isn't helped by the clunky and very on the nose dialogue as well the massive amount of eye-rolling induced moments. Our lead character is annoying beyond belief and makes decisions that are necessary for the plot to progress but they don't feel earned but more importantly they don't feel real. The audio is fine but could be better but I will say that the music is very well done and adds some much-needed tone to many of the scenes.
A potentially interesting concept, but stumbles in execution. The writing is rather clumsy. In some cases, it frankly has the approximate subtlety of a PowerPoint presentation. For example (MILD EPISODE 1.4 SPOILERS?): one of the characters is a banshee, a woman who became a ghost transformed by anger. Now, I am a woman, and I consider myself a feminist. I think this concept has the potential to become a really interesting exploration of women's emotions in a society saturated by patriarchy, and how those emotions are experienced and interpreted. But not when you have her come out and say " You would never be able to grasp it. The anger. The rage of being a woman in this world" in the episode she's introduced. Or, (POTENTIAL EPISODE 1.7 SPOILERS?), when the protagonist's group encounter a vampire who hungers for people's "feelings", most people will probably think "ah, it's an emotional vampire, I see what you did there". Having the main character say "You're an emotional vampire!... These things actually exist where I'm from. Tons of 'em. Also known as toxic assholes, fuckbois, you name it" feels like the writers lack confidence in either the listener's intelligence or their own ability to get the point across. (END SPOILER?)The protagonist's decisions often seems contrived in service of the plot, something which may even be lampshaded in the show; "ARGEAUX: No! This is too dangerous. We won't allow it. This ain’t no adaptation, this is anarchy! Where's your sense of self-preservation, boy?! SAMIR: I'll be honest with you: never had one. Probably never will. I'd much rather do something for the story, I think". Speaking of the plot, it sometimes feels a bit awkwardly paced, as a rather large amount of time is dedicated to the characters talking about their feelings and being horny - though I'm trying not to let that influence the rating since it is probably an intentional draw for some. And while I don't mind the raunchy stuff, per se, it should at least be written better. In one sexual situation, the protagonist says, with what appears to be complete sincerity, "I want to taste this deliciousness you speak of". In the most recent two episodes, things seemed to move in a better direction (in my opinion, due to a shift in focus to characters who are more inclined to proactively make plot stuff happen, though they do get a lower-than-average-but-still-entirely-sufficient amount of time for being horny and talking about feelings). However, given that the release dates suggest this podcast is potentially inactive, I feel it is necessary to judge it as it currently stands, rather than hope for improvement in future installments that may never exist.
I am all for some great steamy listening. But not when the writing is this bad. The characters showed promise, but who ever wrote this just seems to want to key in on the shock bits. It feels like it was written by a first time author on Literotica. Great representation at least. I just think someone needs an editor.
CARAVAN is the witty and horny podcast I never knew I needed. It's been one of my favourites ever since I listened to itEvery single character we meet is delightfully unique and captivating in their own way.Samir's first-person narration sucks the listeners into his headspace and lets us tag along as he falls into the Canyon and explores its secrets and the supernatural beings inhabiting the place.I laughed a lot, cried a lot too, got horny and when I got to the first season finale, with its gripping cliffhanger, I was left wanting even more of all of them. And I bet you'll end up consuming it all with just as much thirst as I did.
I found this podcast after listening to Girl in Space and seeking more "drama" podcasts (I'm learning new tricks!). Unfortunately, I could not make it through this. The acting felt a bit like a elementary school play and the story wasn't great. Hopefully I'll find more in this genre as I want to like them.
I love Samir very much
I love this show! It's so unique in it's premise and the fact that it's an adult-themed podcast is also pretty unique in Audio Fiction. It's a must listen!
Refreshing, original story with interesting characters.
Just an amazing show so different from others I listen to. Wonderful plot, well paced, characters I enjoy and amazing sound score 💜
CARAVAN rocked my world. It's a simultaneously SUPER sexy AND emotionally moving show. I love it. The writing, sound design, and acting are just incredible. I can't wait to see what's next for our heroes in The Canyon.
Absolutely Loved it! Wish there was more!
Interesting concept but a lack of acting and character development.
This podcast is brilliantly done. It's well-scripted, acted, and produced. The characterization on display here is masterful. Tau's storytelling should be studied and the theory behind it should be taught to anyone who wants to build a world.
Samir is in trouble. He's fallen into the canyon, and he doesn't know the way out. Once you join him, you're not gonna want to leave.
This was different and dark and alot but pretty good!
Caravan has both a grand, mythological scope and a very personal, intimate focus on characters who celebrate their sensuality as fully as their sense of adventure. It's a paranormal epic but with real people struggling with real feelings and failings as they go. It's about connections and love and sex and finding yourself and fighting for what's real as much as what's right. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Beautiful and funny story that flips common tropes.
Absolutely AMAZING
An entertaining thrilling tale. I specially like the two demons that help the deuteragonist. Hoping for a second season.
This podcast has a lot of characters, but makes them all memorable. They're not blank slates, they have deep personality and over-arching backstories. Not to mention, the humor balances well with it's serious moments and I appreciate that.
